Direct simulation of a compressible turbulent jet by the UK Turbulence Consortium
|
|
These simulation results (of dilatation rate in the outer, and vorticity in the inner region) show that most sound emanates from a small region of the jet, near the end of the potential core. This finding has now been explained as being due to a transition in the phase speed of vortical structures as the potential core develops into a jet. |
