As you probably know, the main HPCx system is divided into three regions which are in general scheduled separately. They are: - The Interactive Parallel region, which contains 2 nodes (32 processors), and is reserved for interactive jobs - The Capacity region (26 nodes, 832 processors), which takes jobs using up to 128 processors - The Capability region (64 nodes, 1024 processors) which takes jobs using more than 128 processors At present, the Capacity region is very busy. On the other hand, the Capability region is relatively quiet; there is time to spare, and turnaround times there are good. So this may be a good time to consider scaling up your application to use more than 128 processors, if this is an option for you. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- USER GROUP MEETING There will be a meeting of the HPCx User Group of June 28, 2006, at 2:00 pm. There will be presentations about SMT (see mailing 97) and the use of the tape archive. This will also be an opportunity to discuss any issues you may have. Senior members of HPCx staff will be present. The meeting will be held over Access Grid in the "University of Edinburgh (EPCC)" virtual venue available from any of the AGSC venue servers. See http://www.agsc.ja.net/ for information on how to connect to these servers. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- DEISA TRAINING SESSION: 5 JULY 2006 Special topic: Highly Scalable Parallel Applications. The first DEISA training session will be held in Paris on the 3rd to the 5th of July, 2006. Scientists from all European countries and member of industrial organisations involved in HPC are invited to attend. The purpose of the training is to enable e fast development of user skills and know-how needed for the efficient utilisation of the eDEISA infrastructure. Please visit www.deisa.org/training and discover how you can claim back all reasonable expenses. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Regards --John ---------------------------------------------------------------------- HPC-UK partnership: http://www.hpc-uk.ac.uk ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Earlier mailings: http://www.hpcx.ac.uk/support/notices/index.html To be removed from the mailing list: log into your website account, go to the "Update" page, and click the "Opt out of user emails" field; then click "Commit update". -- John Fisher j.fisher@epcc.ed.ac.uk HPCx User Administration and Helpdesk HPCx: http://www.hpcx.ac.uk Helpdesk: support@hpcx.ac.uk Phone: +44 131 650 5029 Fax: +44 131 650 6555
