At present, Phase 3 is not officially in service. We have to run benchmarks, and after that, there is a reliability trial, during which the system must run for a set period of time without incident. In the mean time, the system is available for use, although problems may happen during this interim period. We have moved to Phase 3 simply by the addition of more CPUs. These have been divided into regions, as before: Phase 2A Phase 3 Capability region (Jobs >= 256 CPUs): 1024 1536 Capacity region (other jobs): 416 800 Interactive/parallel region: 32 32 Total: 1472 2368 Reserved development region: 192 192 TOTAL: 1664 2560 At present, the queue structure is the same as before. Your existing jobscripts should work without change. The new system will deliver a minimum of 12 Tflops, that is, 12,000 AUs an hour. The Capability region is large enough to run a 512-processor job (or two 256-processor jobs) at the same time as a 1024-processor job - this will make the batch system run more smoothly. The increase in the Capacity region, which has been very busy recently, should be very helpful. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- DEISA TRAINING SESSION IN JÜLICH, GERMANY The 2nd DEISA training session will be held at Forschungszentrum Jülich GmbH, in Jülich, Germany, on October 23rd - 25th, 2006. The training will give a global introduction to the usage of the DEISA infrastructure and discuss the topic of performance and portability. DEISA will refund all reasonable expenses.
