This new software is part of the admin software, SAFE, which also drives the admin website. This means that we will be able to attribute queries to particular HPCx users. As a result, when you log into the website at you will be able to view your own current queries, as well as submit new ones. Admin website (SAFE): https://www.hpcx.ac.uk/index.jsp ---------------------------------------------------------------------- WHAT HAPPENED IN A MAINTENANCE SESSION? You may be familiar with the calendar of maintenance sessions, which you can find here: http://services.hpcx.ac.uk/maintenance/ The dates of maintenance sessions are coloured pink. If you click one of these, it will tell you what happened during the session, including changes in the system software. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- DEISA SYMPOSIUM: TOWARDS PETASCALE COMPUTING IN EUROPE Munich, Germany, May 21st - 22nd, 2007 The 3rd DEISA Symposium will be held at the Bavarian Academy of Sciences and Humanities, in Munich, Germany on the 21st and 22nd of May, 2007. This year, the DEISA Symposium focuses on the initiatives and strategies being deployed to enhance the outreach of high performance computing in Europe. The meeting will start on Monday at 13:30 and will end on Tuesday at 12:30. For logistic reasons, participants are requested to register at www.deisa.org, but there is no registration fee. The registration will close on the 6th of May, 2007. Details and registration: http://www.deisa.org/symposium ---------------------------------------------------------------------- DEISA TRAINING Espoo, Finland, May 30 - June 1, 2007 The 4th DEISA training session will be held at CSC, the Finnish IT Center for Science, Espoo, Finland on the 30th May to the 1st of June, 2007. Scientists from all European countries and members of industrial organisations involved in high performance computing are invited to attend. The training enables fast development of user skills and know-how needed for the efficient utilisation of the DEISA infrastructure. The first part of the training gives a global description and introduction to the usage of the DEISA infrastructure. The second part of the training will be dedicated to the topic of heterogeneous environments (CrayXT4 at CSC, SGI at LRZ) and optimisation. The attendance is limited to 30 participants. Upon request, DEISA will take charge of the travel and living expenses of up to 15 participants arriving from outside of Finland. The registration will close on the 8th of May, 2007. Detailed agenda and registration form: www.deisa.org/training. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- THE DEISA EXTREME COMPUTING INITIATIVE: CALL FOR PROPOSALS 2007 One method of gaining access to the DEISA infrastructure is through the DEISA Extreme Computing Initiative, or DECI, and the third DECI Call for Proposals is now open. Successful proposals will be ground breaking simulations that would not be possible without the DEISA infrastructure, and this year one can apply for compute and/or human resources. Proposals from PIs that have yet to benefit from DECI compute resources will be given preference. Interested scientists can first email the UK's DECI representative, Dr Gavin Pringle (g.pringle@epcc.ed.ac.uk) for guidance on determining the best fit between their requirements and DEISA. Further information and a proposal template form is available from www.deisa.org. The closing date for proposals is the 30th of June, 2007. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Regards --John ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Earlier mailings: http://www.hpcx.ac.uk/support/notices/index.html To be removed from the mailing list: log into your website account, go to the "Update" page, and click the "Opt out of user emails" field; then click "Commit update". -- John Fisher j.fisher@epcc.ed.ac.uk HPCx User Administration and Helpdesk HPCx: http://www.hpcx.ac.uk Helpdesk: support@hpcx.ac.uk Phone: +44 131 650 5029 Fax: +44 131 650 6555
