The service on the Phase 1 platform will close at 8:00 on Monday, 26 April. Any batch jobs running at that moment will be stopped and any jobs waiting to execute will be discarded. After that, we will need a few days with no service on either machine. During this period, the filestore and all the accounts on the Phase 1 platform will be moved to Phase 2, and the new platform will be properly configured to support the full service. If all goes according to plan, the service will reopen on the new platform on Thursday, 29 April. The exact time for this has not yet been decided. You will be able to log in to the new platform using the same user names and passwords, and find all your directories and files in the same places. People who have been using Phase 2 under the early-use scheme, including HPCx staff, will be able to find their former Phase 2 files in another location - we will give details later. It will be up to them to move these files into their main filestore if they need them. After a time (a small number of weeks) the remaining early-use files will be removed - I shall give proper warning of this. An updated version of the User Guide will be made available before we go live on Phase 2. There will also be an updated document listing the differences between the two environments. We think that the transition will be fairly easy, but if anyone has any problems or concerns, please get in touch: support@hpcx.ac.uk Another good forum for discussing any problems will be the Phase2 Workshop - see below. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- THE WEBSITE DURING THE TRANSITION You will still be able to use the administrative website during the period that the service is closed. Please note, however, that no operation which requires the service machine to be running will complete. This includes the registration of new users and changes to disk quotas, for example. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- HPCx PHASE2 WORKSHOP AND NERC CONSORTIA MEETING This is a reminder of this one-day event, which will be held on Wednesday 26th May at University College London. The aim of the meeting is to allow users to discuss issues arising from the upgrade of the HPCx service with members of the HPCx support team. The morning session is, by request, targeted specifically at users from NERC consortia, while the afternoon session is open to all users. We will present a couple of talks on our own experiences from the support side, but we are very keen to have as much input as possible from HPCx users. This will be a fairly informal event where we hope to spend most of the time discussing issues that are raised during the course of the day. The provisional schedule is: 10:30 -- 12:30 NERC user meeting 14:00 -- 17:00 Phase2 Workshop If you would like to attend either of these sessions, please email Kevin Stratford . ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Regards --John ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Earlier mailings: http://www.hpcx.ac.uk/support/notices/index.html To be removed from the mailing list: log into your website account, go to the "Update" page, and click the "Opt out of user emails" field; then click "Commit update". -- John Fisher j.fisher@epcc.ed.ac.uk HPCx User Administration and Helpdesk HPCx: http://www.hpcx.ac.uk Helpdesk: support@hpcx.ac.uk Phone: +44 131 650 5029 Fax: +44 131 650 6555
