Next Wednesday, 19 May, the plan is to add the remaining 12 new frames, bringing the system up to it complete size, 50 user frames containing 1600 processors. This will be done during the normal maintenance slot from 12 noon to midnight. The service will be down during this period. We hope to make new frames available for use on Friday 21 or Monday 24 May, possibly in stages. On Wednesday, 26 May at 8:00, the system will go down in order to do the acceptance trials for the whole Phase 2 service. We hope to reopen the service, using all 50 frames, sometime on Friday afternoon, but there is a possibility that we will need more time. Thereafter we will be in what is called a "stability trial", which means that the service has to run without failure for ten consecutive days, during which a normal user service must run. This trial shouldn't affect the service as users see it. The full user service will be able to accept batch jobs needing 1024 processors, and probably 1280 processors as well. I shall mail round more information about the configuration later. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- COURSE: USING THE HPCx SERVICE The next run of this course will be on June 4th at Daresbury Laboratory. Details can be found here: http://www.hpcx.ac.uk/support/training/HPCxIntro.html This aim of this course is to provide an overview of the HPCx service. After describing the basic architecture of the HPCx system, compilation, execution and batch job submission are all addressed. The different tools and libraries available on the system are summarised and a range of porting issues considered. Finally a range of HPCx specific mechanisms are described, including registration and resource monitoring. There will be an opportunity for attendees to request and receive consultancy on their own specific codes. The course is delivered as an intensive one-day module, and is taught using a variety of methods including formal lectures, practical exercises, programming examples and informal tutorial discussions. Please register using the standard form, which you can find here: http://www.hpcx.ac.uk/support/training/form.html This run of the course replaces one in April which had to be postponed because of the system uppgrade. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Regards --John ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Earlier mailings: http://www.hpcx.ac.uk/support/notices/index.html To be removed from the mailing list: log into your website account, go to the "Update" page, and click the "Opt out of user emails" field; then click "Commit update". -- John Fisher j.fisher@epcc.ed.ac.uk HPCx User Administration and Helpdesk HPCx: http://www.hpcx.ac.uk Helpdesk: support@hpcx.ac.uk Phone: +44 131 650 5029 Fax: +44 131 650 6555
