However, it has not proved possible to make these extra frames available to users at the moment. Our apologies. Apart from that we are still following the timetable I gave in the last mailing. On Wednesday, 26 May at 8:00, the system will go down in order to do the acceptance trials for the whole Phase 2 service. We hope to reopen the complete system sometime on Friday afternoon, although there is a possibility that we will need more time. Thereafter we will be in what is called a "stability trial", which means that the service has to run without failure for ten consecutive days, during which a normal user service must run. This trial shouldn't affect the service as users see it. The full user service will be able to accept batch jobs needing 1024 processors, and probably 1280 processors as well. I shall mail round more information about the configuration later. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- MP_PRINTENV - MPI USERS PLEASE READ! Earlier this year we had problems when people set MP_PRINTENV=YES. This had the side-effect of making the jobs take a long time to start, somethimes as much as ten minutes. Recently poe was upgraded and the problem now seems to have reappeared. We have raised this as an error, but until it's corrected I'll have to ask people not to set this variable in this way. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Announcement from: The RealityGrid Project: http://www.realitygrid.org - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - REALITYGRID WORKSHOP The 2nd Annual RealityGrid Workshop will take place at the Royal Society of London on 15-16 June 2004. Details are now available at: http://www.realitygrid.org/workshop-2004/index.html from where you can navigate to the programme and registration pages. Please be sure to register if you wish to attend. Last year, we had to turn some people away as the event proved to be very popular. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Announcement from: The ENACTS Network: http://www.enacts.org - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - CALL FOR PARTICIPATION: SURVEY OF USER NEEDS by CSC (Finland) and CINECA (Italy), partners in the ENACTS network http://www.enacts.org How do your high performance and distributed computing services currently meet your expectations? What are your future requirements for access to HPC facilities and datastores? The Survey of Users' Needs aims to collect information via a questionnaire targeted to HPC users and Grid interest groups across Europe. The purpose is to outline how users perceive emerging technology and how it affects their research. The questionnaire covers your computing environment needs and bottlenecks, the applications you use, your experience in using new emerging technologies and your needs for Grid-based development. The results of this survey will be summarised and analysed in a report, which will make recommendations regarding the direction of collaborative computing in Europe. Please take a few minutes to answer the questionnaire at: http://www.csc.fi/proj/enacts/ The deadline for answers is Monday, June 7, 2004. Filling the questionnaire will only take about 10 minutes, and it's a chance to have your say in the development of advanced computing in Europe. The results of this survey will be published in Autumn 2004. All responses will be treated as anonymous and the report will not reveal your identity. This survey is a study by the ENACTS network, a consortium of 14 leading European centres. If you supply your email address we will enter you in a lottery to win a bottle of quality Italian wine! Thank you for your time.
