This was the result of a failure of the login node, the special frame through which everyone logs into the system. The system immediately reconfigured itself to use the backup login node, so users were able to log back in at once. (Some people encountered a message telling them to edit the ~/.ssh/known_hosts file, but once this was done, there should have been no problems.) However, we wish to move back to the primary login node as soon as we can. In order to do this, we will need to close any interactive sessions which are going on at the time. This will happen at 08:00 on Tuesday, 12 October; the break in service will be very short indeed. Our apologies in advance.
