To discuss techniques, pros and cons, we will be running a short seminar over the Access Grid at 12:30 on Wednesday, 20 July. This will be followed by a meeting of the HPCx Users' Group. This is a chance for you to give us your opinions and suggestions for the service. Senior members of HPCx staff will take part. Here is a list of Access Grid nodes in the UK - there are probably many more by now: http://euroag.accessgrid.org/eurosites.html#uk ---------------------------------------------------------------------- DDT The parallel interactive debugger DDT from Allinea Software Ltd is now available for users to try out on HPCx. This is an alternative to TotalView and we would welcome any feedback from users as to how they find the performance and capabilities of DDT. Information on how to use DDT: http://www.hpcx.ac.uk/support/FAQ/DDT/ Please send comments to the helpdesk: support@hpcx.ac.uk ---------------------------------------------------------------------- IMPROVED MPI WITH RDMA: TECHNICAL REPORT As I mentioned in the last mailing, the RDMA facility (Remote Direct Access Memory) was installed on HPCx as part of the recent SP12 software upgrade. In a new Technical Note, Alan Gray, Joachim Hein and Stephen Booth look at the improvements in the performance of MPI which you can expect with this. You can find it here: http://www.hpcx.ac.uk/research/hpc/technical_reports/HPCxTR0505.pdf ---------------------------------------------------------------------- POSTAL ADDRESSES Could I ask you, when you have a moment to spare, to check whether your postal address in our database is correct and up-to-date? Here's how to do it: - Log into your account on the website - In the panel headed "Your details", click "Update" - Change any fields which are wrong, and - Click "Commit Update" Note that your postal address doesn't automatically include the names of your department or institution - you have to type them in if you want them (this is because some people prefer to use their home addresses).
