The course will cover the Phase 2A architecture and optimisation techniques (especially differences from the earlier POWER4 architecture), and will also present initial results on the new system. To register for this course, please use the standard form. Numbers are very limited. Please register before March 16, since site security require a list of those attending in advance. For details and registration, please go here: http://www.hpcx.ac.uk/support/training/index.html ---------------------------------------------------------------------- NEW HPCx TECHNICAL REPORTS Two new Technical Reports from the HPCx team have been published this year. You can find all the Technical Reports here: http://www.hpcx.ac.uk/research/hpc/ HPCxTR0602 "A Performance Comparison of HPCx Phase 2a to Phase 2" Alan Gray, David Henty, Lorna Smith, Joachim Hein, Stephen Booth, Mark Bull, Fiona Reid, Arthur Trew Comparisons of the performance of benchmarks and several popular applications codes on the Phase 2 and Phase 2A platforms. HPCxTR0601 "Profiling Write Performance of HDF5" Jon Hill, Lorna Smith and Arthur Trew An exploration of the performance on HPCx of the portable binary data format, HDF5. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- >From Prof Peter Coveney, UCL - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - PhD STUDENTSHIP Centre for Computational Science, University College London Applications are invited for a PhD studentship to develop novel computational methods for the study of fully developed turbulence at high Reynolds numbers and the identification and tracking of vortical structures in such flows. The research, which will be in collaboration with Professor Bruce Boghosian (Tufts University, USA), will draw on our unique expertise in the emerging field of high performance grid computing. The starting date is September 2006. Candidates, who should have a suitable background in a physical science, engineering, or mathematics, should apply by submitting a full C.V. and the names and contact details of two academic referees, to Prof Peter Coveney, preferably by email (P.V.Coveney@ucl.ac.uk). The application deadline is 15 March 2005. For more information on the position, please see www.realitygrid.org and/or contact Prof Peter Coveney. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Regards --John ---------------------------------------------------------------------- HPC-UK partnership: http://www.hpc-uk.ac.uk ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Earlier mailings: http://www.hpcx.ac.uk/support/notices/index.html To be removed from the mailing list: log into your website account, go to the "Update" page, and click the "Opt out of user emails" field; then click "Commit update". -- John Fisher j.fisher@epcc.ed.ac.uk HPCx User Administration and Helpdesk HPCx: http://www.hpcx.ac.uk Helpdesk: support@hpcx.ac.uk Phone: +44 131 650 5029 Fax: +44 131 650 6555
