Many users will be looking to migrate their work to HPCx when the CSAR service closes at the end of June 2006. As members of the HPC-UK consortium, the HPCx and CSAR services have collaborated to run a one-day workshop to provide training on the differences between the two systems and hands-on help in porting codes.
The aim of this course is to provide an overview of the HPCx service and to provide advice on porting codes and data from CSAR to HPCx. The key differences between the two systems will be highlighted. The basic architecture of the HPCx system, compilation of codes and batch job submission are addressed. Data migration between CSAR and HPCx is also addressed. Finally a range of HPCx specific mechanisms are described, including registration and resource monitoring. The morning session comprises a set of lectures and short practicals. The afternoon session is designed to be a hands-on session allowing users to try porting their codes with HPCx and CSAR staff available to give technical advice.
